Cybertruck hit with its first recall

Tesla has been hit with a massive recall involving over 2 million vehicles, including the Cybertruck. The reason behind the recall is unusual to say the least. Published on Feb 6, 2024.

The Cybertruck has been around for a couple of months at this point, and it has already been hit with its first recall.

And the reason behind the recall is so specific and seemingly unimportant, it’s actually almost hilarious.

Most recalls are handled by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Either because customers find defects, or the company does.

But either way, when it comes to safety issues and defects, ‘big’ or ‘small’ is all relative. Because if the NHTSA deems it dangerous, the recall is inevitable.

The latest safety issue involves 2,193,869 Teslas. Which translates to nearly every Tesla ever sold in the US, including a few Cybertrucks.

In addition to the truck, it also involves Model S cars built between 2012 and 2023, Model 3s built between 2017 and 2023, Model Xs sold between 2016 and 2024, and Model Ys sold between 2019 and 2024.

That’s kind of impressive, and not in a good way, but what is even more impressive is the reason.

According to the NHTSA, the main issue is “an incorrect font size displayed on the instrument panel for the Brake, Park, and Antilock Brake System (ABS) warning lights.”

“As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety. [standards for] Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems and Light Vehicle Brake Systems,” the recall states.

In other words, the font size is too small and some people may not be able to read it properly.

Tesla has had issues with recalls on several occasions in the past, but this recall is by far the weirdest.

Customers will no doubt be annoyed by this, and it probably won’t make Elon Musk particularly happy either.

It hasn’t been a great start to the year for Musk.

The Cybertruck is finally here, yes, but Tesla is so far behind the planned schedule. It’ll take years to carry out the existing orders.

And as a cherry on top of this sour cake, a Delaware judge indirectly cost Musk his number one spot on Forbes‘ billionaire list. By annulling a stock option deal which, according to the judge, wasn’t legit.

This explains why Musk is no longer the world’s richest man.

Still, with a net worth of $194 billion at the time of writing. e have a feeling he won’t have to resort to food stamps just yet.
